Spring Motorcycle Prep Checklist
Before hitting the road this spring, make sure your bike is road-ready with this essential checklist.
Print it out and check off each item as you go!
Battery
- Check battery voltage (should be 12.6V-12.8V when fully charged)
- Charge or replace if necessary
- Inspect terminals for corrosion and clean if needed
Fluids
- Check and top off engine oil
- Inspect brake fluid (replace if dark or over two years old)
- Check coolant level (if applicable)
- Inspect and replace transmission/primary fluid if needed
Tires
- Check tire pressure (match manual's PSI recommendation)
- Inspect tread depth for adequate grip
- Look for cracks, dry rot, or uneven wear
Brakes
- Inspect brake pads for wear
- Check brake rotors for warping or scoring
- Test front and rear brake function
Lights & Electrical
- Test headlights (high and low beam)
- Check turn signals and brake lights
- Inspect wiring and connections for wear or damage
Chain/Belt Drive
- Clean and lubricate chain (if applicable)
- Inspect belt for cracks or fraying
- Adjust Drive Belt Tension (if applicable)
Fuel System
- Check for stale gas (drain if necessary)
- Inspect fuel lines and connections for leaks
- Replace fuel filter if needed
Suspension & Steering
- Inspect fork seals for leaks
- Ensure handlebars turn smoothly with no resistance
- Check rear shock absorbers for leaks or damage
Gear & Emergency Kit
- Inspect helmet for cracks or damage
- Check gloves, jacket, and boots for wear
- Pack a tool kit, tire repair kit, and phone charger
Final Test Ride
- Take a short ride to check for vibrations, noises, or handling issues
- Make adjustments as needed before heading out on a long ride
